SLP's coating started rusting after a year. Overall, a good emmisions legal header. -

The y-pipe did not line up right, it was off by 1/2"-3/4". I had to cut and extend one side to match up with the headers. Also the alternator stud/bolt that you need to reuse from the stock manifold would not fit, not enough clearance from the primary tube. I had to machine the head down on the bolt to gain enough room to use it. These were the two main problems I experienced. Other than that the overall install was not that difficult and I was very pleased with the sound and performance gain of them. Plug access is overall better than the stock manifolds. I changed all plugs once since the install in about 1-1/2 hours. -

Bought from a friend with brand new powder coat on. A couple header bolts loosen up from time to time. I am very happy with performance and looks. -

Huge power gains combined with off-road pipe. -

FastZinTennessee-Fastzntn@aol.com
I bought the headers off of the "For Sale" section on camaroz28.com. They are stainless steel and don't need to be coated unless you are going for looks. I have not dynoed or gone to the track. I have heard some people claim 30 rwhp from these headers when used with an off road pipe in place of the cat. 3-4 MPH in the quarter is not unheard of. Plug access is crappy, but better than stock manifolds. Be sure and get a set of high temp plug wires and some firesleeving. The #5 plug wire will need it desperately. -
95
Id recommend them for people that need to get SMOG still. -

- These are the stainless steel headers from SLP. Two days after I had them on the car they had flash rust already showing. I think that since I paid $550 for the stainless headers, they shouldn't be rusting. Two weeks later they dropped the price drastically on the price for the dual cat cars. -
96
-
- I converted my dual cat car to single cat. My install was easier than most because I had the heads off being ported when I installed the headers. I just set them in there. I also put in a cam at the same time, so I don't know what kinds of gains I would have seen from the headers alone. I have my headers wrapped-they have been for about 4 years and have never had any problems of any kind. I also have never needed to tighten up the bolts, I used Stage-8's. -

- Z95m6
- I bought mine used with hot coating for about $300 still in great shape. They weren't all that difficult to install just time consuming. The motor had to be jacked up on the driverside to get it the header in. I have never dynoed or been to the track but the car feels twice as strong and doesn't choke off up high anymore. I had !cat and borla and the car was loud and obnoxious the exhaust popped constantly. After i did the headers the car sounds flawless no popping. I had been told headers make the car sound horrible but for me it made the exhaust sound perfect. -

- bought them off a guy on the forum, new. install was a bitch! -

- the ceramic coating was not smooth on the flange on the left side and leaked a bit. I bought some Zap chimney caulk and coated both sides of the gasket, Problem solved. -
95
-Ryan Renz RR95z 408man@bellsouth.net
- I purchased them used on Camaroz28.com from Dr. Mudge for $350 shipped. They were painted silver when I got them, but I stripped and painted them white. Plug access is so much easier than the stock manifolds, but of course since you can't get a full socket on each one, people will think that the access isn't that good. I've seen many header designs for the lt-1, and I haven't seen better access with shorties. -

Moore94Z
They are a bitch to install, the y-pipe doesn't line up too good(could be a motor mount sagging) but they make damn good power. I trap 106 in the 1/4 with these, a CAI and a catback with a cutout. O2 extender to re-route harness through motor mount, otherwise you will burn it on the header collector(passenger side)

Chris'SS#2152
These headers seam to leaks around the heads some. I just recently took them off for some head work and also noticed that the felpro gaskets didn't hold up very well.Since I bought them used I got a good deal and if I had it to do over again I would have gone with LT's All I bought for the install was felpro 1406 gaskets/collector gaskets (stock GM) and stage 8 headers bolts
97
ScottZ
I used Earls Pressure Master gaskets. I am impressed with them. Plug access is terrible. Some special tools would be helpful, short plug socket, variety of univerals, extensions, boxed end ratchet wrench to fit plug socket. Header bolts back off constantly. I used SLP supplied bolts. I will try arps with lockwashers or Stage 8 in the near future. I used Earls gaskets from Summit Racing. they are around $30. DO NOT USE STAINLESS COLLECTOR BOLTS unless you use anti sieze on them. I did, and it took many hours of torch, penetrating oil, and breaker bar to remove them.

I bought my headers off ebay. If I had to buy them new I would have paid over $700. Although I haven't been to the dyno I felt a huge SOPT difference. Copper seals gaskets and o2 sims. Lucky enough to find them on ebay as well.

I bought and put them onto the motor before my motor went in so installation was simple. I did however have to pull the passenger side header out after the install and it was fairly easy. No times before headers or dyno numbers so no estimated hp gains. The overall build quality was good but far from excellent. There was too much welds inside the primaries and grinding them down was too hard for the Dremel so in they went untouched. Also the install kit was useless other than the gaskets. I had to sawzall a couple of the mounting holes on the mounting flange because some sort of spacers were welded to them, and the bolts supplied were not long enough. Surface finish is horrible and I wish I had of had them jet hot coated but later I will. Well, there is my 2 cents. None

Excellent header for shorties. Used the SLP installation kit. If you are worried about ground clearance with long tubes I would highly recommend these. Plug access is a little difficult but manageable. Finish is real nice and they look great. Didn't NEED anything. Everything was included with the installation kit, but I did purchase O2 sims for the hell of it.

Don't use anything but felpro. The gasket is made so you bolt up the header before dropping the gasket in so you don't have to fumble around with it. My install took longer than average because I ran into a few problems... First of all I broke the temp sensor in the head on the passenger side. I also did !AIR and accidently poked a little hole in an A/C line. Also, the biggest PITA was that the damn header bolts didn't line up on both sides. I had to drill some of the holes out to make it fit but I guess I was just unlucky. Also watch out for the heater hose on the passenger side side, I zip tied it as far as possible from the header primary. Use the stock wire looms, that's the best way to do it, no OVC whatever you do. On the driver side remove the steering linkage don't try to work around it. And on the passenger side some people remove the oil dipstick but I have heard it was VERY hard to put back in. I was able to work around it pretty easyily, it does have some play. In through the bottom on the driver side, in from the top on the passenger. Pretty straight forward just a few querks. A recommendation if you don't get a visual smog inspection is to go for a random tech dual cat y pipe, nice piece. The big driver side cat I have read acts sort of as a heat sink. I used the stage 8 locking bolts. Think i got em from thunderracing. I used taylor 8mm wires and autolite plugs. To do the !AIR you need 5/8 angled brass caps that you can get from a hardware store. You also need a plug (not sure of size) for the AIR connection on the intake box if you are removing the AIR pump. I used ultra copper RTV (a thin layer not so it's all gobbing out) on the gaskets to make sure there was no leaks. You also need to buy y-pipe gaskets - 10 bucks for both from NAPA, almost 30 from the dealership (local not Dal or Jason). You are gonna want a long 7/16 wrench. My friend had one which made tightening those stage 8 bolts real easy.

By, installation, being #6, it is by no means hard, just time consuming. Also, have fun looking for the air fitting block off bolts on the headers if one wants to remove the air system. M22 x 1.5 dot pitch is what is required. Make sure the bolt is no longer than half an inch. Oil drain plug bolts work the best in the size mentioned. I live in Canada, so it was tough for me to track them down. eMail me if you want to know where I got them. Cheaply. cam_g_@hotmail.com MAC INSTALL TIPS: 1) Don't break the dipstick tube or the handle doing the install. The dipstick tube is held to the block with ONE bolt. It should then pull right out of the block. Work it. 2) ARP 12 point header bolts worked the best. 3) I found NO need to re-tighten the bolts after a few weeks. 4) Passenger header (from the top, muscled it down). Driver's header, wrangled its way from the bottom. 5) Watch the passenger side O2 wire as it snakes back into the engine compartment, it comes close to the header. 6) MAKE SURE you secure the cruise control cable to the brake line, it will burn through the header. 7) If your driver's side header rests against the steering shaft at all, or the steering shaft contacts the header, your motor mounts are worn. They came with that cheap HTS or whatever they call it coating. I guess its not much of a problem down south (lack of salt on the roads) They've been on for about 2 months now with no leaks or problems withj the coatings (knocks on wood) I'll just say that they were not easy to install and leave it at that. They sound extremely loud, throaty and raspy through the off road pipe that came with them and the flowmaster catback. As for gains, I'll put it like this: Before headers/offroad pipe, my best 1/4 mile was a 13.52 at 104.04 mph in 62 degree weather with low humidity. Mods at the time were a K&N CAI, Granatelli MAF, and flowmaster AT catback. Thats it. After adding only headers and offroad pipe, I ran a 13.20 flat at 106.43 mph in weather 14 degrees warmer with more humidity. I'm sure that the car will run 107+ with better weather. I'll find out this fall. Car is an M6, BTW. -

Coated by JetHot. I actually did use the Felpro 1406, which DO NOT FIT the Macs... I had to alter them a little bit. Instructions said to remove the oil dipstick tube, which I never had to do, I just sort of twisted it and bended it towards the driver's side. I had basically no experience before doing this, I installed a K&N CAI, CD player, foglights... and I did it all myself, it took 8 days of all my spare time from work and sleep. Gakets... I used Stage 8 locking bolts, which I don't really like, those clips are a PITA... y-pipe and off-road pipe came with the Macs. I used new O2 sensors too, and changed the plugs and wires as well.

one of my first mods - knowing what I do now I'd have gone with long-tubes instead i added on the feldpro gaskets and stage 8 locking bolts - although the kit came with gaaskets and bolts purchased from same vendor - $50 extra

I bought them used for $200 the car the cam off of much a bottomed out and bent them they were awful to line up and had to be straitend. even with all the install probles that I assume new ones would not have had the plug acces what worth the effort alone I recomed mac for a budget header. -

The MAC's are not ceramic coated, but they are cheap, give good power, are a breeze to install, and have the best plug sccess that I have ever seen I didn't have to, but I bought a different set of gaskets, because the mac ones looked kind of weak, but i have heard no complaints about them.

Make completely SURE that all bolts are removed from the heads. DO NOT install headers unless you can safely remove ALL bolts from the heads. Lastly, make sure George Hernandez doesn't help!! :-) Nothing.

QIKZLVR-97
I sent mine to JET-HOT to be coated with their sterling finish. IMO, this is the way to go with ANY header you buy. My recommendation is that if it's your first time, have a friend, plenty of beer, and plenty of band-aides to get through it. In the end though, its DEFINATLY worth it. The only other thing I needed to get was O2 simulators and I bought them off of another Z28.com board member for $45.

They are good, but for some reason I keep thinking, "what if they were long tubes", but I also saved money to add more stuff on. I don't regret it. I bought special bolts. 7/8 fine thread bolts, to go into the air bungs. I took that off of my car. If you still have the secondary air injection system on your car, then you won't need these bolts. Great product!

I got these headers used, with the Edelbrock Chrome Coating thing (they look fine so far, nice and shiny), they are for a 94-95 Z, but i put them on my 93. They still fit but the EGR was different on the passenger side, so i had the hole plugged up. The plug acess is amazing on them though. -
94
Teal_94z28
I would recommend these headers came with all the needed materials, and came with a Y-pipe, no leaks and I have had them for about 9 months, the reason the install took so long was because my bonehead friend and I never did anything like that before, but now, If I had to do it over again, probably could be done in 5 or 6 hours. -
96
Cheekster96
i have had the headers on and off several times now and i have it down to where i can remove them in like two hours and reinstall in four..with the removal of my cats now, i am thinking of going with some long tube headers to allow the car to breathe better. the TES look good under the car, but are kinda small. purchased some ARP header install bolts. Copper gaskets from Jegs. Anti-seize. a friends welder. bought them from Jegs and paid in the neighborhood of $450.

I didn't do thw work myself,I had it done at a speed shop in upstate NY.I had the edelbrock headers and a edelbrock cat back installed. After the install the only problem I had was I think the #7 cylynder wire was to close to the header and it melted it.So I had better wires installed.I would recommend polished headers, they look better. While I was there,I also did minor stuff, like pullys, hypertech programmer, thermostat, and a couple bottles of water wetter. All in all I really noticed an improvement, especially after the programmer,I had an auto, and could reprogram the shift firmness, and points.I hope this helps. As a side note,I traded that car in and bought an 01 SS,so I don't know the long term on the items,But I assume that the car is ok,It has been over a year since I had it. -

Easy to install, drivers side plug access is easier than stock, passengers side required removal of header for #2 and #6 plugs. Collector ball fitting must be enlarged for gains (opening is smaller than stock, but easy to fix) Coated at home with black ceramic coating using Techline product. -

- Purchased directly through Hooker for $450 coated. Install took a lot of time due to changing spark plugs/wires at the same time. Plug access is very good on the driver's side and not too bad on the passenger side, with the exception of #2. Therefore, for the passenger side, I just remove the header since it's much easier that way. Another thing is the collectors are very small, around 2"-2.25". I had to use a grinder to match them to the diameter of the 2.5" y-pipe. I've had the headers for 3 years now and they're pretty rusty, especially the y-pipe. Overall, I like the headers, but I probably should have gotten something with 1.75" primaries. If I had to buy another set of headers, I don't know what else I'd get since all of them seem to have their good/bad points. -

Bought from Jet-Hot: good service, 3-month payment plan, nice polished looking coating Used Hooker gaskets that came with them and standard 1"L bolts. Re-torqued after a few heat cycles: no leakage from what I can tell. Y-pipe mounting flange to cat could be better: had to make my own gasket using Mr. Gasket Ultra-seal sheet Plug Access: #2 (nearly impossible) #6 (a beeotch!) Others are not too bad but I'd say overall a little worse than stock manifolds. Can't tell from the sound that the car has headers on it. A little disappointing. Might be because I have a cat. Power gains: RWHP is VERY disappointing. RWTQ great! (for some reason) Also installed CAI, cat-back, hi-flow cat, and PCMFORLESS tuning at the same time. Gained 11RWHP after all of that! Something is very wrong! I'd still recommend them for smog legal alternative if the price is right but I'd like to try the MAC's -

- I purchased my Hooker Shorties directly from Jet-Hot coatings. They were offerring a easy 3 payment plan and a good price. I beleive it was $425 or $450 shipped to my door. Their customer service was great and the header coating is very nice. I noticed a definite improvement in throttle response and a much stronger upper rpm pull. I have been extremely pleased. I was concerned because alot of people had ripped on the hooker shorties but I have had a top notch experience and goog gains. Plug access will never be good on a LT1(if you have ever owned a muscle car) but it is much improved. Plus they are carb certified which ways in on my choice. -

Hooker y pipe did not fit properly, had to be cut and welded back together to fit properly. I bought my headers direct from Jet Hot. Service was disappointing, coating quality was also disappointing. Gaskets are Earl's. No leaks. I used and recommend Stage 8 header bolts. -
95
gcburk@yahoo.com
You need to open up the collectors about 1/4 inch all the way around with a die grinder to achive 15hp+ gain otherwise your only gonna see less than 10hp gain. They were double coated (2100 deg) by Paul Barry. After a hard run you can litterally grab and hold a primary and not get burned....wow. -

I like them, they were cheap and are ugly. The biggest problem I had was with the spark plug wires burning off, but it's really better that the stock manifold and haven't had the problem in a couple years. No other parts were purchased Bought at local race shop for 340

I wasn't very happy with the coating from Jet-Hot, it looked great before installation (except it didn't look like they spent a lot of time on detail in the cracks) after a few weeks the coating just looks like the color of a paper clip. I'm going to call Chris at Jet-Hot and find out what the deal is with the warrenty on that! Felpro 1406 gasket are awesome, they are easy to install (slip in type) and the seal great!!! I bought the gaskets from Summit for $14.99 (set) I also bought Stage 8 locking headers bolts, these are awesome too. They are a little tricky at first to get the clip on but it is definatly worth it. Summit 24.99 (?) Taylor fire sleeves work ok as far as keeping the wires from burning but on of my wires still burned b/c it was lying directly on the header. They are also very tricky to install w/ no direction! These work ok but they are not work $50.00 that I paid from summit!!

The gaskets that came with the header set are Mr. Gasket also all the nut & bolts, but it's not the cooperseal brand. I pick the JBA's up at a local swap meet show full kit for under $350. They happen to be from a JBA rep. that a costomer had on his car for about a month cause it was just to load for his taste. JBA's from the dealer are expensive, I would of not got them for there rate. instead i got luck for the price so thats way i jump on the deal. It was somewhat easy to install but i dont have my A/C unit, maybe if it was on it would of been a lot harder to install the front plug and wire. The driver side was so easy it took about a hour to install, the passenger side is another story. -
97
Bern'n T/A
With the limited options available for the dual-cat cars the JBA's are probably the best option out there. The build quality and materials used were excellent. Since I purchased the headers used I had them re-coated by Paul Barry Motorsports using their 2300deg coating high luster coating. -

- great quality header. should have gone with these before wasting the money on macs. A great header for those that have to stay emissions legal. Not the cheapest header but cannot match the quality. -
97
Bobby97WS.6TransAm
I really like the looks of the headers and so far I havent had any leaks. The gains seemed ok. I had SLP shorties and they sucked. The passenger side header was warped and I had a ton of leaks constantly. So I got rid of those pieces of junk and went with quality headers like JBA. Very well made, but not the biggest primaries for HP but its better than having leaks. I bought the headers from Internet racers supply. They were having problems at the time with customer service...no one answered the phone when I called to check on my order. They finally came ups but not with out some hassles.
94
Rick Raldiris aka I CORNER
Bought from Motorsports Technologies. This was the biggest hp gain on stock internal motor. Trap speeds in 1/4 mile went from 100mph to 104mph with the headers, Random high-flow cat and Borla cat-back exhaust alone, which I feel equates to more than 25hp increase. Headers were of good quality with good thick flanges. Header had been dropped before coating and 1 air tube fitting was bent in. JBA sent loaner thread tap overnight mail. Ceramic coating still looks great after 4 years and 50,000 miles. Headers installed with reasonable effort from the top. As the Y-pipe is slip fit, I cut a short piece of 3" Stainless exhaust tubing to slip inside Y-pipe and Random Tech Cat to align them and a band strap to hold them together (no weld shop required). I have used Copper and then Aluminum Graphite gaskets. Head flange and collector flange paper gaskets provided were junk. I used copper with some leaks and then Earl's graphite gaskets with aluminum frame on head flange. I tried copper gaskets with many leaks on collectors. Engine twist and pipe configuration broke standard bolts. I had to use ARP high strenght SS bolts. Aluminum gaskets actually extruded/melted out here. Now using a flexitalic type gasket with ARP bolts with good success. Header bolts provided were cheap standard carbon steel - used ARP 1" SS header bolts. Y-Pipe came with header. I purchased a second ceramic coated Y-pipe, which brought price to over $800.
94
Da_Dark_Z28
Outside of the cost (little on the high side), JBA are very good headers. The headers came with their own y-pipe.

Easily as good, quality wise, as BBK, Edelbrock, Hooker, etc. Nice finish. Y pipe fit was poor but is at least adjustable (2 piece). Cylinder head fit was excellent. Had to install a shorter # 7 plug to prevent primary tube contact. Also ran OVC plug wires at the same time and that consumed as much time as the header install. -
95

Easy install. One weld got in the way of the header bolt on cyl #2. Other than that, no problems. -

robertf97
I like these headers a lot because they are ceramic coated inside and out, very well priced, have excellent plug access, and nice thick flanges (~3/8"). The slip joint at the y-pipe needs to be welded as it will leak with just the provided clamp. I had to clean up a fair amount of weld slag/rough edges on the inside of the collectors. Installation tip: bolt the y-pipe to the headers before bolting the headers to the heads. Otherwise y-pipe bolt access is a pain. -
94
Ryan/94ConvertibleZ
Bought at A&A Auto parts, used Mr. Gasket gaskets but not the copper. The only probems I have had are the original gaskets they gave with the kit were cheap. I never should have put them in the first time. I have had to go back and replace all the gaskets with something better, even the collectors. The y pipe comes very close to the front crossmember which is sometimes a problem. If you hit a dip in the road hard enough, the engine shifts enough to allow the y pipe to bumo the crossmember and eventaully tear a collector gasket. Not too big a deal. Only changed the collectors once for this event, once before to replace the cheapies. Excelent bang for the back...I wish I went for the coated though. Everything included..I did buy better gaskets from Mr. Gasket at about 25$ and dead soft collector gaskets at about $15.
94
FasterNU
Never gained a damn thing from these. Tons of leaks related to the paper gaskets it came with. Copper gaskets didn't seal them. Finally sealed with Earl's gaskets. Tons of time and money in gaskets. Will go another route in the future. Gaskets-bought three different sets. Best were Earl's from a local speed shop. Thick as two paper ones.

94 ElevensOrBust Bought directly from AS&M Not sure on the MPH gain as I did a number of changes at one time. Also, I installed them back in '96 and I'm not sure I still have time slips that far back :) Overall, a very good header in terms of quality and, I think, performance. A bit nasty will plug access and even header bolt access. -
93 Fastbird93 The HP and MPH gains were with a Random Tech Cat and Cat back. Plug access is really good for all but the #6 and 5 plugs. #6 Spark plug wire clearance is PITA!! Had to route around the outside of the headers and down under. Y-Pipe fitment is a little crumby though. High quality build, coating is incredible, and the power is amazing. Took me 2+ days cause I could only do a couple hours at a time--someone with time could accomplish in less than 2 days easily. -
95 n2ocamaro - Quality header. Nicely made. Expensive! Went in fairly easy for a late model Camaro. Only complaint-They should have made the y-pipe 1 piece. -
94 FRDEATR Very good fit. I bought them used. They are supposedly good to over 800HP. That's excellent, considering that they're shorties. I love them. No scraping issues either, as with long tubes. I didn't have to buy anything. They came with a 2.5" y-pipe with a 3" collector.
95 LWM/mackenzl@shaw.ca Made a big difference with the supercharger. Had to move the steering coupler up 1/4 inch to clear one tube. Ordered an install kit (heat sleeves), some stage 8 bolts, and a set of Magnecore wires with one of the leads a special length to accomodate the headers.
96 ZSTANG2@msn.com ASM and don't look back. I seen and taked to people with MAC, BBK and SLP they are not happy after driving mine or seeing the Quality. O2 extenion cable 15.00 a small price to pay
95 rskrause The headers were purchased from Random Tech with a Y-pipe and dual high flow cats. The combo was expensive at nearly $1K. Gained 38rwhp over stock manifolds. I have no "before and after" track runs with headers as the only variable. -

95 jkipp84@team.camaroz28.com I had a problem with the header AIR fittings not matching mine. I wound up having to pick up some -10AN unions from a local speed shop. I also have a slight leak around the slip fit primary. I'd get them again had I to do it over though, very happy. -
94 WJH'sFormula - I bought these used, I don't think it was too bad of a deal. The coating was done by Jet Hot. These headers do have some fitment issues, a lot of shit is hard to get to in the limited amount of space. -
94 Z28ROC -I got them from fasttoys.net very noticeable performance gain, on the low and the top end. I did too many mods at the same time to determine an exact 1/4 mile improvement. Plug access could be better, but after you do them a couple of times it's not too bad. They required a couple of modifications to fit properly, but nothing major. The coating is holding up very well and so are the supplied gaskets. been on for 2 1/2 years or so. -
94 needmods I bought 'em used for $475 which included shipping, a bit much looking back. If I were to buy new, I probably would have gone with Mac. -
95 John Kipp I got these headers on a 10% off everything sale from Tbyrne, so I only paid about $500 for them. Over a year later, they're still doing well, the coating isn't that great though. I think they'll need to be re-done in a year or so. I had to get some -10 AN Unions to bolt on the smog pump fittings (local speed shop). Also I ordered some ARP stainly Hex head header bolts and some Fel Pro gaskets from Summmit.
94 2MCHPSI Rk SPort 1 3/4 are midlength headers not shorties. I gained 4 mph with headers and no converter. I used antiseize on the slip fit #1 primary tube because if you do not use antiseize, later if you take these headers off, the tube will not come off easily if not at all from my experience

I did the headers along with a bunch of other bolt-on mods. The car went from running 14.0 @ 101 to 13.2 @ 106. This was with the headers, 58 mm throttle body, pullies and a bunch of other little crap. Plug access sucks, but exhaust leaks haven't been a problem except for one bolt that is impossible to get to.
95
FastGuyJR
Gaskets sucked. Caused all kinds of exhaust leaks. Swapped with Mr Gasket ones from Pep Boys, which are awesome, and I have not had a problem with. Did this the same time as the cam, so can't tell how much of an increase. Replacement gaskets $15. Pep boys.

Bought the HLT's from Thunder Racing bare and had them drop shipped to Paul Barry Motorsports for 2100 degree ceramic coating. I installed heads/cam at the same time as the the HLT's so its hard to say how much HP I gaind with them. Very well worth the money!! -

I got more than 4 mph, but I also installed other mods at the same time. Ex. CAI, 4.10 gears, Custom dual Exhaust, all the ignition stuff, etc. Current times have ranged between 13.23 @ 106.9mphm to 13.6 @ 107.5 mph. All on Street tires. -

Bryan Shelby (ShelbyZ28)
Bought them at Thunder Racing and had them coated at Jet Hot. Currently using a Mufflex y-pipe which fit without any major issues. Ground clearance is low but on a non-lowered car the headers rarly hit anything. Power gains compared to shorties are noticable and well worth the ground clearance loss. IMO Hooker LTs are the best header available as far as price, power, sound, and overall quality. -
95

I bought them from Muscle Motors when Jack Abraham was a sponser back in 00. They were coated by Jet Hot. But the coating is already starting to chip and rust somewhat. They will recoat them for free though, under warranty. I do not run cats. They are awesome, and I would never buy shorties, unless emissions forced me to. Which, I probably still wouldn't. -

headers went in very well. did both from the bottom as i installed my new engine. plug access was excellent for the most part, about 2 were a pain though. i bought them un-coated and had paul barry coat them . in addition to the hooker long tubes i also bought: - paul barry ceramic coating (~$240) - O2 extenders ($18 each) - 1406 gaskets (not included w/ headers) - stage 8 locking header bolts (~$30) - muflex y-pipe ($250) O2 bosses ($50)

I never ran the 1/4 mile, but in the 1/8 I went from a constant 9.1 @ 79 on a 2.10 to a 8.8@ 81.50 on a 2.298. When I ran that 8.8 the auto was bouncing off the revlimiter on the 2 to 3 shift. header bols, gaskets, home made Y pipe, o2 extensions

I absolutely love these headers, I am glad I got these and not a shorty. They really cleaned up the engine bay too. The plug access is great, except the 7 & 8 but take the starter out and they are right there easy to get from beneath the car. If you are gonna do headers, why not do it the right way. Gaskets, bots, O2 extentions, y-pipe, RTV, Vacume caps, EGR block offs.

I bought these from Jet hot directly . The coating within 2 months has rusted off the bottom of the headers . The headers themselves are GREAT , but sorry ...Jet hot sux . I would think it was a isolated problem but there 4 other F-bodies in town with the same headers and there all rusting thru the coating . I bought 02 extenders from casper electronics . Also felpro 1406 gaskets , ARP 12 point bolts <----dont do that , just get hex bolts trust me . I also bought 3" Mandrel J-bends and a 3" to 4" flowmaster Y-collector thru Summit and me and a buddy fabbed the y-pipe . No cats . Its been awhile , but I think I had just under a $100 in all the above items .

I bought them from Jethot. You should put jethot on your list, alot of people get Hooker LTs from them. I bought after market gaskets and Stage 8 locking bolts. Made my own o2 extensions which I also documented very well and made a website on how to do. I had to get o2 bungs put in. Trying to find a local hardware store that had a nut that would hold the o2s were hard as hell. And I couldnt wait for o2 bungs to come in the mail. 02 extensions cost me no more than $10 to make, and it was high because I tried to put plastic wire protector stuff on the wires but some of it just melted off. o2 bungs I bought at a hardware store for like $2 and drilled the holes for them myself and my bro welded them in.

Great plug access except #8. Jet Hot coated, and the coating sucks BADLY, as did Muscle Motors, the place I got them from. Y-pipe (Mufflex, and it was a POS), made my O2 extenders, all new Y-pipe clamps plus some welding on the Y-pipe, new header gaskets and bolts.

I bought my Headers coated from Jet-hot for $620 shipped. I had the heads off when I installed mine, so I don't really know the HP and MPH gains. Custom y-pipe $150 (local) ARP 12 point bolts $20 (Summit) Fel pro gaskets $20- didn't want to use the ones that came w/ the headers (local) O2 extenders-$30 (ls1speed.com)

I should have coated them; 6 plugs are ok, 2 are hell. I spent 8 hours changing them last time. they're very low below the car too I had to extend the O2 wires, but it was done for less than $10

be patient, take your time!took about 4 hrs. to do.i would replace plugs and wires at this time if car hasnt had it done yet.you will have to grind off the locking washers some to get them to fit on most of the header bolts. extended my o2 sensors, blocked off egr on back of intake(cut metal tubing to about 2" long and then crimped it and bolted it back on intake.)went with dual exhaust didnt need y-pipe.stage 8 locking header bolts from summit part#stg-8911,$31.95.

I cannot qualtify the exact gains as I changed headers when I changed shortblocks. Since the motor was out the install was easy. Had a custom "Y" pipe made. I plan on going to a true dual setup in October of this year after the Bracket Finals for IHRA Division III. I have been doing everything to keep the car above the 12.00 cutoff for Street Eliminator. O2 sensors had to be extended and bungs welded in.

Bought mine and had them dropped shipped to Paul Barry Motorsports for coating. Excellent choice - much nicer than Jet hot. Have held up extremely well. Excellent fitment, power gain, plug access. No ground clearance problems, but I would never lower the car now. Purchased with O2 bungs welded in before coating. Used Flowmaster Y pipe (am changing to Mufflex unit due to poor fit)

Bought from Jet Hot uncoated for $360, and sent to Paul Barry and had coated for $195 (plus $10 shipping each way). Had 02 sensor bungs welded in locally (Hooker brand 02 bungs $15 each... buy Summit ones). Install recommendations: They are really easy to install when you get your car high enough. Thats the whole trick to getting the passenger's side header in. Tilt the motor to get the driver's side in (pull the one motor mount bolt, and with the load evenly distributed over the oil pan, jack the engine up an inch or so and the header slips right in). For the passenger's side, get the car high (like 3ft in the air) and the header will slip in vertically. No need to tilt the engine on the passenger's side. Paul Barry's coating has been excellent. It was chrome colored for about 1000 miles, and then started to turn silver near the primaries. The collectors and rest of the headers are still bright chrome. I have the 1300 degree coating. No chips, and no rust whatsoever. I bought Felpro 1406 header gaskets (work awesome), Stage 8 locking header bolts (even though I didn't use the locks), Summit Racing's house brand header collectors to build the Y-pipe off of (work awesome also), one 180 degree 3" mandrel bent tube from Summit to make a mandrel bent Y-pipe from, two Thunder Racing 24" 02 extensions, Hooker brand 02 bungs, GM LT4 EGR block off plate, homemade 1/4" think aluminum AIR injection block off plate, Taylor 8mm Universal wires with LT1 boots, MadeForYou over-the-valve-cover wire looms

Purchased from Jet-Hot direct on a CZ28.com GP. Silver-ceramic coated inside and out. Welded O2 bungs included. This made my 3rd Hooker LT install with the same 2 other people helping. We knew all the tricks and banged it out in one day including food and parts runs. Pulled 281/312 on the dyno and 101mph at the track before CAI, pulleys, headers, Nitto DRs. Hoping to get new numbers soon. Felpro 1406 header gaskets - $20 - Thunder Racing #11-1406 Stage 8 Locking header bolts 3/4" - $32.95 - Thunder Racing #11-8911 O2 Sensor extension, 24" flat 4-pin - $25 x 2 - Thunder Racing #99-02EXT Custom 3" y-pipe - $250 - Florida Performance, Inc.

I got it from JetHot for $577 shipped (GP) Intall took 12 hours (2 persons) Plug access is real easy on the driver side, hard on passanger. (both sides are better than the stock headers) I have two Catalytic converters "CATCO" (It's possible to have cats with a custom y pipe... not an easy task, but possible) no track times yet --

The first installation was somewhat difficult but I have taken them off and on since then during my cam install and it was MUCH easier the second time. I havee had problems with burning wires in the stock location....even after tying them down. Top end, MPG and sound have greatly improved. Unfortunately I did this along with other mods over the winter so I have no specific numbers for after the headers. But with hotcam, long tubes and 3200 stall TC I have dropped 1.3 seconds and gained 9 mph in the 1/4. Traction is a big issue so my 1/4 times aren't as accurate as they should be. I also experienced knock and had to desensitize my knock sensor. Felpro gaskets, O2 extensions and simms, locking bolts, plugs, wires, custom y-pipe, desensitized knock sensor. Sorry....been a while so I don't have the cost of each and where I bought them.

bought from jet hot coating, have had them on for two months. I have no leaks from the headers, but the band clamps supplied with mufflex y-pipe do not seal the connections. The coating on the headers is pretty bad. I had a problem with a warped flange. The y-pipe doesn't always line up perfectly so the v-clamps tend to leak, sometimes the y-pipe also bangs on the floor board. On the bright side, the power increase is there. -
94
Alex94TAGT@aol.com
Way too much money for what they are. Overall plug access isnt too bad- but two of them really suck and one boot touches a primary, install sucks, alignment of the y-pipe sucks, clamps for the y-pipe suck, Air fittings are made for 96+ (if you arent driving a 96, you must buy new fittings ~ $30), Oil cooler will not work with these, had to jack up passenger side engine. Other than that, the coating looks nice, and everything appears well-constructed. The install itself wasnt too difficult, but it was *very* annoying and time consuming. After install, i could feel a slight power increase, and overall exhaust tone has completely changed - especially with both cats on the car (with a borla cat-back). Very mellow, and much more valvetrain noise. The y-pipe usually tends to smack up against the floor pan or at least vibrate against something - kinda noisy, but can be fixed with the addition of new exhaust hangers. I cant say whether these are better or worse than other brands because these are my first set. Beats the hell out of the stock manifolds however. -
96
sleeperZ96BT
- plugs are a WHORE but you cant beat the fit and fact that it lines up nice. might as well pay the $1250 up front and not worry about anything. only extra parts needed are an o2 extension and o2 simms, other than that its a complete kit. -

I think the FLP's are awesome because they come with everything you need. However, the gaskets and bolts they come with are kinda cheesy so I went with the felpros and some ARP header bolts. Felpro gaskets, ARP bolts new AIR fittings to fit a single cat car.

I had edelbrock shorties at first. Just changed to flp longtubes and a complete new exhaust to the back of the car. It sounds great and a very significant power increase at every rpm. FLP longtubes will install without moving the engine. The passenger side will go in from the top by removing the valve cover. The driver side will go in from under the car. You must remove the stock gm oil cooler. Plug access on #5,6,8 plugs is very difficult. Use a Craftsman offset 5/8" open end wrench for these plugs. Had to install a shorty plug on #5. Oil dipstick will have to be bent/modified for it to work. The supplied flp y-pipe will have to be modified for higher horsepower cars. MSD heat wrap....$15 Thermo Tec heat shield for added driver side cat converter....$50 Accel shorty plugs....$2.50 each ARP stainless header bolts (already had these, had to cut a few down to 3/4") 02 extension (12") for the passenger side header....$23 from Caspers Electronics GM air smog fittings/tubes from a 1997 LT1......$35 from GM

95 treyZ28 I bought mine used. Sound bad ass. I'm an idiot and didn't weld the collectors. I also didn't tighten the header bolts frequently and blew both my gaskets in a matter of a month. My advice- get header bolts, get felpro gaskets and get them coated. Better than hookers in my opinion because although you give up 5hp, you lose NO ground clearance. I got a custom made Y pipe -
