Survey Results (Buying Guide):

Short Tubes/Mid-Lengths:

SLP stainless steel

-Primaries: 1 3/4"
-Price:
$400-$450 for duel cat cars,
$600 for single cat cars,
add $150-$175 for ceramic coating.

Advantages:
-Well crafted.
-Awesome gains for a shorty header.
-Great sound

Problem Areas:
-Slight surface rust was reported on non-coated headers (Normal and only an appearance issue.)
-Supplied bolts have a tendency to loosen up and back out. (See suggestions)

Suggestions:
-Use Stage 8 header bolts.

MAC
-Click for owner comments
-Primaries: 1 5/8"
-Price:
   $390-$400 for single cat cars.
   $500-$550 for duel cat cars (including off-road pipe).
   $700-$750 for duel cat cars (including cats).

Advantages:
-Excellent plug access.
-Great gains for a Mid-length header.
-Minimal exhaust leak problems

Problem Areas:
-People don't like the HTS coating.

Suggestions:
-Be careful removing the dip stick

Edelbrock

-Price:
   $330 for single cat cars.
   $490 for duel cat cars.

Advantages:
-Excellent plug access.
-Very few exhaust leak problems

Problem Areas:
-#7 primary runs close to the plug wire.

Hookers Super Comp

-Primaries: 1 5/8"
-Price:
   $350-$400 for single cat cars.
   $550-$600 if you want them coated.

Advantages:
-Minimal exhaust leak problems.
-Jet-Hot has/had a great deal on coated ones ($450-$500).

Problem Areas:
-Collector ball fitting must be enlarged for gains (opening is smaller than stock, but easy to fix).
-Plug access not so good. Some reported having to remove the passenger side header to get to the #2 plug.

Suggestions:
-Use Stage 8 header bolts.
-Get them ceramic coated.

JBA C.A.R.B. Legal Headers

-Price:
   $600 ($750 if you want them coated.)

Advantages:
-Minimal exhaust leak problems.
-Very well built.
-Coating is topnotch.
-CARB legal.

Problem Areas:
-Pricey

Pace Setters

-Price:
   $267 ($365 for coated ones)

Advantages:
-Very Inexpensive.

Problem Areas:
-They are always on back order and are hard to find.
-Sloppy welds.
-Gains are not all that good.

Suggestions:
-Weld the Y-pipe (it comes in 2 pieces).
-Don't use the supplied gaskets. Use Felpros or Mr. Gasket.

Arizona Speed and Marine's

   $740-$750 for single cat cars (coated).

Advantages:
-Minimal exhaust leak problems.
-Very well built.
-Coating is topnotch.
-Great gains reported.

Problem Areas:
-Pricey

-Supplied gaskets hold up well.

-Get coated ones.
-Run plug wires over the valve covers.

   $1250 (coated with Cats, Off Road pipes, and Y-pipe)

Advantages:
-Arguably the best LT1 headers from a performance standpoint.

Problem Areas:
-Very pricey
-Difficult installation.
-Fitment problems.
-Plug access not very good

Suggestions:
-Invest in Stage 8 Bolts and Felpro Gaskets
-Run "Shorty" plugs.
